Cricket Shock: Ramiz Raja’s Blunt Verdict on Saim Ayub & Azam Khan’s Potential! Are They Wasting Their Talent in PSL 9?

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has expressed concern over the underutilization of the potential possessed by the power-hitting duo, Saim Ayub and Azam Khan. Ramiz, who has been vocal about Ayub’s need for increased confidence, emphasized that the young player is a significant prospect for the country.

In the recent five-match T20I series against New Zealand, Ayub struggled to make an impact, accumulating only 39 runs in four games at an average of 9.75 and a strike-rate of 130. Azam Khan, on the other hand, finished the series with 22 runs in three matches, maintaining an average of 7.33 and a strike-rate of 115.78.

Expressing his disappointment on his YouTube channel, Cricket Pakistan quoted Ramiz Raja saying, “These players are wasting their potential.”

As the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) kicks off, Ayub finds himself in the Peshawar Zalmi squad. In his initial matches against the Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings, Ayub scored 42 and 0, respectively. Ramiz’s hope is that Ayub can discover his form and live up to his potential in the PSL.

Ramiz also called for clarity in the role assigned to Azam Khan in the T20I team, specifically in the middle order. Azam, currently representing Islamabad United in the PSL, managed to score 13 in the team’s recent game against the Multan Sultans.

The Peshawar Zalmi squad for PSL 9 includes players like captain Babar Azam, Rovman Powell, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Asif Ali, and the spotlighted Saim Ayub. Meanwhile, the Islamabad United squad, led by Shadab Khan, features talents such as Naseem Shah, Alex Hales, Colin Munro, and the discussed Azam Khan.

As the PSL unfolds, all eyes will be on Saim Ayub and Azam Khan to see if they can overcome their recent struggles and showcase the immense potential that has been highlighted by Ramiz Raja.
